While we’ve had excellent Airbnb experiences in the past, our Savannah Airbnb left us a little concerned about what might be waiting for us in Charleston.
Charleston Single Homes
We had booked a one-bedroom apartment in a Charleston single home. Charleston single homes are unique in their layout.
Charleston is laid out on a grid system, so most houses run north/south or east/west. The narrow side of the house faces the street, and typically they have a porch along the south or west side. This covered porch gives shade during the afternoon, the hottest part of Charleston’s day.
A Change In Plans
Before leaving for our Southern Road Trip, we received a message that there were maintenance issues with the home we had booked. They, in turn, offered to upgrade us to another one of their properties, about a block away.
We’ve had great success with individually owned Airbnbs. However, ones like this, managed by a company with multiple listings, can come in handy if there is an issue with the property.
On one trip to Merida, there was an issue with the electricity in the neighborhood we were staying in. Fortunately, the owner was finishing renovating a home in another area and moved us there.
Our Charleston Airbnb
As luck would have it, we hit the jackpot with our Charleston Airbnb upgrade.
The Airbnb had two off-street parking spaces – one for our unit and one for the adjoining unit. These entered into a beautiful covered patio with plenty of seating.

A beautiful walkway led to the street in the front of the house and the main entrance on the side patio. It was especially beautiful at night with a water feature and lighting.

The Living Room
The side patio entered into a beautiful living room, just perfect for the two of us to chill and watch some TV after a long day.
They did a great job mixing the old and the new with the faux brick wall and modern décor. And we loved the unique staircase that led upstairs.

The Main Bedroom
To the left of the living room was the main bedroom, toward the front of the house. No detail was overlooked, from the king-size bed with luxurious linen to a built-in wet bar, flat-screen TV, and USB ports in the nightstands.

They managed to add in a full bath by placing a spacious stall shower in the entryway and a toilet and sink under the stairs. It was small but super functional and a great addition to the lower level.
The Kitchen of our Charleston Airbnb
While we were not planning on cooking, the kitchen was amazing! It was huge, well equipped and had new appliances.
It was large enough to include a sizable table for four and a full-size washer and dryer behind the bi-fold doors.

Upstairs in the Airbnb
The upper level of the Airbnb had two bedrooms with a shared bath. Again, all spacious and well-appointed. Each had a TV, a small workstation, and many modern accents.
While we didn’t use either of the upstairs bedrooms, having a second bathroom came in handy getting ready in the morning.

Location, Location, Location
While the new location was a block farther away from King Street, it was still very walkable. There were many great restaurants within a few blocks in either direction. And, we were centrally located to see everything on our Charleston itinerary.
The neighborhood was quiet, and this Airbnb could not have been more perfect for the Charleston portion of our southern road trip. The Inns did an amazing job with their collection of Airbnbs!
