With so many travel limitations still in place, we decided that maybe we should stay a little closer to home for our fall vacation. So, we planned out a nine-day Southern Road Trip!
Ten years ago, we passed through Savannah on our way to Orlando, looking for a home. And, as no one knew we were leaving the cold of Philadelphia for the sunshine state, we didn’t share a lot of what we did.
We had driven straight down I-95 stopping in Savannah, and were so exhausted that we really didn’t get to enjoy much of the city. And, it was pre-blog, so we have very little record of what we did.
So, Savannah was at the top of our list.
Hitting the Road on a Southern Road Trip
We looked at options where we could drive under 6 hours in a day. We wanted to connect cities with history and great southern food. To some extent, we stayed off of major highways to enjoy putting the top down on the convertible and seeing the sites along the drive.
With that in mind, we mapped out a southern road trip from St. Petersburg, Florida, to Savannah, Georgia, spending three nights in Savannah. We took a short drive from Savannah to Charleston, South Carolina, for another three days there. We finished up our road trip heading back south, stopping in St Augustine, Florida, for a few days before heading back home.
Food, History and Scenic Beauty
As usual, we did a ton of research, including travel blogs, YouTube, and friends who had traveled to any of those cities. We compiled lists of historical sites, local foods, and of course, more restaurants than we could have ever eaten at!
We can’t wait to share our travels in each city! From Airbnb’s in southern mansions to historic forts and award-winning BBQ to biscuits and Gullah Crab Rice!

We had a fantastic time! Be sure to follow along to see the good, the bad, and the unexpected!
We’ll be sharing Southern Road Trip blogs on amazing restaurants, Airbnb, and hotel reviews as well as some not-to-be-missed tours and sites.
Great shots!
