This is a blog post we weren’t sure we’d ever be writing. (No, not because it took forever to finish our last series!)
As you might know, we have canceled trips to Peru to visit Machu Picchu twice. The first time was scheduled just when COVID came along. Post covid, we were scheduled again, and there was some civil unrest in Peru, some not too far from Machu Picchu. And we’re not getting any younger.
Despite the setbacks, we remained determined. Finally, in early November, we boarded our flights to Peru, ready to embark on our long-awaited adventure.
Gate 1 Travel -10 Day Classic Peru
We booked with Gate 1 Travel for their 10-day Classic Peru trip. The package included three nights in Lima, two nights in Urubamba in the Sacred Valley, two nights in Cuzco, and two nights in Puno.

We flew in two days early to chill and have a little more time in Lima in case of any flight delays. As you’ll see, the trip covers a lot of ground.
We started in Lima, which currently has the biggest international airport in Peru. Our group quickly traveled around the city and flew off to Cuzco. However, we were only there long enough to board a bus and drive to the Sacred Valley. From the Sacred Valley we took the train to Machu Picchu. After Machu Picchu/Sacred Valley, we returned to Cuzco and explored the city before crossing the high plains to Puno and Lake Titicaca. Then, we flew back to Lima to close out the trip.
The trip is very physical, and since we live at sea level, we were concerned about some places at high altitudes. But we managed surprisingly well.
It was an incredible trip, and the people were terrific. We’re so glad we finally made it to Peru. If it’s not on your bucket list, it should be.

A Horse Of A Different Color
This blog series is going to look a little different for us. We’ve found that breaking the blog posts down into major sites or activities creates a lot of blog posts when you factor in hotels and restaurants, too.
We will try to write fewer blog posts for this series but include more in each. Each city will be its own post, including hotel reviews, our dining experiences, major sites, and any fun activities we did.
Obviously, Machu Picchu and the afternoon we spent with some incredible women in Chinchero will be the subject of a separate blog post.
The posts might be a little longer but will contain lots of great photos and information.
So, thanks for following along! We think you’ll enjoy this trip, and the new format will allow us to get our blogging back on track.
Fortunately, retirement means we’ll be able to travel more than before, and we’ve got plenty of Mexican adventures we want to share, too.
First up will be our adventures in the beautiful city of Lima, Peru!
