The irony is not lost on us that our first post after sharing our trip to India is about burgers.
We rarely eat red meat, but when we do, we LOVE a great burger. And, yes, we were craving burgers when we got home from India.
St Pete’s Top 10 Burgers
We’ve only lived in St Pete a little over three years and have tried several Mom and Pop places. Especially during our ‘Safe At Home’ and our staycation, we try to support small businesses.
We’re sure everyone has their favorites, and we know we haven’t been to every burger joint in town. Not surprisingly, our top three consistently appear in the Top Ten on Yelp, Tripadvisor, and many food blogs.
All three of these places are off the beaten path and not on the radar of a majority of tourists coming to the area for the beaches. But all three are worth the trip.
#3 Burger – Engine No. 9
56 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North
St. Petersburg, FL 33705
This neighborhood (St. Pete’s Edge District) is changing all the time these days. If you blink, you might miss Engine No. 9; it sits on the corner of 1st Avenue north, so you might blow right passed.
We had heard a lot about their burgers and had to check them out. They’ve got a great menu aside from burgers too.
Their burgers are a good size at 8oz burger and come with one side.
The night we went, I had their XXX Burger ($13.25) with Cheddar Cheese, Barbecue Sauce, and Jalapeno Bacon on a Pretzel Roll. I am a sucker for good crispy Tater Tots, so that was a given! I ordered it rare, and it was beautifully cooked, which never happens.

Chuck had their Black N’ Blue Burger ($13.25) with Franks Hot Sauce, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Sliced Blue Cheese, and Blue Cheese Crumbles. He chose the Sweet Potato Fries as his side.

Other popular burgers are The Heart Attack with Fried Egg, Three Slices of American Cheese, Four Slices of Bacon, and Chipotle Mayo.
Next visit I, want to check out the Marie Laveau (who was known as the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans). This burger comes with Crawfish Tails, Andouille Sausage, Muenster Cheese, Green Onions, and Creole Sauce.
The ONLY reason it hit #3 was that it’s a bit pricey. Two burgers with sides, two pints of beer from their AWESOME beer list, and we were at almost $50, including tax.
#2 Burger – The Burg Bar And Grill
1752 Central Avenue
St Petersburg, FL 33712
This place is TINY with a few tables outside on the sidewalk. So, do not go if the Ray’s are at home as it’s a half block from Tropicana Field.
We stopped for quick lunch and I went for “The Burg” Gyro Feta Burger” ($10.99). This award-winning 8oz. burger is topped with Gyro Meat, House Made Tzatziki, and a thick slice of Feta. Definitely a go-to when we stop back.

Chuck had their Black & Blue Burger ($10.99). An 8oz Burger with Melted Blue Cheese and Bacon. Both come with their homemade Burg Chips.

Beyond those, their other burgers are pretty basic, but really well done. Choices are a Single, a Double, a Patty Melt, and a Western with Cheddar, Green Chili Peppers, Bacon, Onion Ring, and BBQ Sauce.
#1 Burger – Dead Bob’s
6716 Central Avenue
St Petersburg, FL 33707
Dead Bob’s is the stereotypical dive bar, it’s small, limited seating with a big bar, drinks in plastic cups, and food in a basket with checkered paper. AND WE LOVE IT! It’s just a few minutes from the house and our go-to for burgers.
I think Chuck has had the same burger every time we have gone. Bob’s 420 AM/PM Burger has two burger patties, with fried mac and cheese bites sandwiched in between and packed with stupid amounts of melted cheese.

Unfortunately, they recently took it off their regular menu. However, we’ve been told you can ask and they are happy to make it for you.
I, on the other hand, have bounced around and tried a bunch of their burgers. The Pastrami Bob with Pastrami and Swiss, The Gyro Bob with Gyro Meat, Tzatziki and Feta, and the Texas Bob with Bacon, Jalapenos, BBQ Sauce and Pepper Jack Cheese – $8.77 each.

There is no bad burger there. When in doubt be sure to check out their Burger of The Month! They get even more creative with those.
