A morning game drive means you are up with the monkeys, literally. Every morning when the sun comes up they were sitting on our railing outside our tent. They were all over the camp, on the walkways, pool, dining room area, and bar; just waiting for any opportunity to grab some food. I watched one jump onto the afternoon tea table and steal a tea bag; Guess monkeys like afternoon tea too 😊.
The funniest monkey business I saw was after one of the ladies who worked there dropped off some biscuits. As she was walking away down the path one of the monkeys chased after her, tickled her leg and then started to reach up under her dress. She screamed very loudly, but I couldn’t stop laughing. A video would have been priceless, but it happened too fast. You can see from the pic they have devilish eyes.
First up after going through the gates were the Vulturine Guinea Fowl.
Next up we came across a large group of baboons, we will see many of them throughout the week.
For the life of us, we cannot remember what this is called, will update if one of our readers can fill us in.
And then there were elephants; they were everywhere and on every game drive. You will probably get tired of seeing them. After around the 3rd drive, we were like, oh, another elephant….lol. I’ll try and mix the pics up a bit from each drive. Captured 2 elephants playing across the river.
We were also fortunate to catch a large elephant crossing. It was pretty amazing watching them make their way across the river. We sat for a while watching them and all of a sudden we realized were surrounded by them with no easy exit. Scary yet exhilarating at the same time. A few revs of the engine cleared an escape route.
There are 2 types of Zebra in Kenya, this one is called the Grevy’s Zebra. The numbers of these zebra are rapidly declining and they are only found in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. The white underbelly is another way to distinguish them from other zebra.
Ok you are correct about being up with the monkeys, but being one who is so in love with elephants I never got tired of their loveliness.
